(Macau).- Despite the shorter period, gross gaming revenue generated by the Macau SAR has increased 22.3 per cent month-to-month in February to some MOP7.7 billion (US$963.8 million).

The amount reported also represented a 6 per cent year-on-year jump, but it is still only a third of what was reported in pre-pandemic times.
Still, the sector reported MOP14.1 billion in the first two months of this year, an 8 per cent drop from the same period last year.
According to the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the city received 113,699 travellers in the CNY break this year — between 31 January and 6 February — a 25.4 per cent jump from the same period a year ago.
Brokerage Sanford C. Bernstein has said in research earlier that the performance of the city’s casinos in the CNY holiday was “better than expected”, raking in an average of MOP333 million (US$41.6 million) a day that was 60 per cent higher than the same festive period in 2021.
However, the local gaming sector average daily revenue volume in the post-Chinese New Year holiday period achieved the highest averages since the May, 2021 Labour Day Golden Week.
According to Bernstein channel checks, Macau’s month to date gaming revenue average between February 1-20 reached MOP6.3 billion with a daily average of MOP315 million, lower 65 per cent when compared to February 2019 but 21 per cent than the previous month’s average.
Macau still requires travellers crossing the land border from China to present a Covid-19 test taken no more than 48 hours prior, with air arrivals 7-days prior.
Mainland China’s outbreak is largely under control, but the largest feeder market, Guangdong, is still reporting occasional local cases including in the neighbouring land border city of Zhuhai.
